Wine Selector is a personal app, shared free with family and friends, that picks a wine from a restaurant's wine list for best pairing and value. It is for adults of legal drinking age.
What the app stores, and why
- Your name from Sign in with Apple, to show your household who rated what. The app does not ask Apple for your email.
- Photos of wine lists you take, to read the list. They are stored privately; only you can open them.
- Meals, dishes, the wine you ordered and your ratings and notes, to build your personal wine library and to improve future picks.
- Your taste profile (styles, regions, producers, dislikes, budgets) if you fill it in.
- Restaurants you plan for, by name and city. If you turn on "Research my reservations", the app reads your calendar on your phone to find restaurant reservations; only the restaurant's name and city are sent, never the event, its notes or attendees.
- Settings on your phone (last dish, budget, appearance). These stay on the phone.
Who processes it
- Supabase hosts the database, photo storage and sign-in (United States).
- Anthropic (Claude) reads the wine-list photos and the dish and wine text to transcribe the list, judge pairings and research retail prices. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, this data is not used to train its models. Price research searches the web for wine names only, never for anything about you.
- Apple: while the app is tested through TestFlight, Apple passes on crash reports and any feedback you choose to send.
Who sees it
- You, and the household members you invite with a code: they see your meals and ratings, you see theirs. Nobody else does.
- Wine facts (a wine's name and its retail price, and what a restaurant's list charged for it) are shared across all users without saying who saw them, so prices are instant for everyone next time.
No advertising, no tracking, no selling of data.
Deleting your data
Profile → Delete account deletes your profile, meals, orders, ratings, notes, research requests and photos, and removes you from your household. Anonymous wine facts (a list price seen at a restaurant) remain.
